A LESSON ON NOT EATING STRANGE PLANTS

Macy and her friend Emma were playing on Saturday and decided to be adventuress in taste testing. They were out in Emma's yard and decided to try out some of their garden flowers. They immediately had a reaction to the flower, their throats were burning. I think it scared them enough that they needed to tell Emma's mom about their little adventure. Well, Joni called to let me know of their fun and we decided that they were probably going to be just fine. Right before Macy went to bed last night she told me that her eye felt fat. We also went swimming on Friday and since Macy wears glasses which have a UV protectant in them, her skin around her eyes is pretty sensitive. It seems like every time we go swimming she has a reaction to the chlorine in the water. Its not uncommon for her to have red swollen eyes after. We just chalked it up to that. Then this morning she comes running upstairs with her left eye swollen shut and these blistery hives. We immediately knew she was having and allergic reaction to the flower. I called Joni to ask if she knew what the flower was that they ate so that we could make sure it was nothing serious. Then Riley asked a doctor in our ward if we needed to take her in. He just said to give her Benadryl and she would be fine. I made her take a picture so that we could remember this forever. She wasn't very happy with me, but this is classic. We were curious if she was playing survivor man. We told her that even survivor man doesn't just eat any plant out in the wild, so I guess this has been a good lesson on not eating strange plants.

I actually feel really bad for her, but I had to laugh at the story because I remember eating flowers out at Manon! I never had any reaction, except I did fall down a lot out there!

OH my Goodness! How sad! She looks miserable. Why would she want to eat flowers? I hope she gets well soon.

I love this post! Sorry Macey! You are still beautiful! What flower was it? That is awesome - did it at least taste good??

That is so crazy! I can't believe that eating a flower did that! At least it wasn't too serious!

I just have to tell you this-hopefully it's not too gross. My baby pooped out a big ole purplish petal the other day and I thought of Macy! Luckily she didn't have any type of reaction. I remembered taking that flower away from her. I just didn't realize she had already consumed some of it!
